Q: anyone using twitter to generate business leads?
Lots of companies are now interested in social media, especially Twitter, and some are starting to commit ad dollars to testing the waters. But is anyone using it to generate real leads for their business?
A: social network professionalism
Q: Do you find that you take extra steps to ensure that your online profile on social networking sites (e.g., LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) remains professional? Does this effect how you use these sites? (posed on LinkedIn)
Most of us are dancing a fine line between who we are at work and who we are at home is now blurred. For the most part, we are on our best behavior on networking sites like LinkedIn. There, we are very deliberate and cautious about what we share, say and do. On the other hand, many of us have created a “veiled” curtain around our Facebook and MySpace pages allowing our true selves to shine a lot more. That’s where we can be ourselves. Somewhere in between sits Twitter. For the most part, that one depends on how we use it and whether we tie it to any of our other online selves.
The challenge is how much do we allow the professional and the social sides to overlap. We all seem to have our own rules. But what happens when our “contacts” become our “friends” and vice versa? Do the walls we thought we’d created quickly crumble? Those are questions for another day.
